About Confessions of a Gate Getter…
Although Confessions of a Gate Getter started as a way to shed light on the anti-ag movement through the award-winning column formerly known as Activists vs. Agriculture, it has evolved into much more. Now, my column focuses on my experience as a young rancher, wife, and mother and my opinions on pressing agricultural topics. Sometimes I write a quippy poem about my childhood, growing up on a Texas ranch; sometimes I write an essay on one of my learning experiences as the official Gate Getter at our ranch in Montana; sometimes, I go back to my roots as a columnist and talk about ag news, ag politics, or anti-ag activists. My goal is to keep my column fresh and entertaining, in hopes to get someone out there talking about agriculture.
Since my first column was published, I’ve interviewed multiple livestock producers and agvocates, spoken to several ag classes about agricultural literacy, went vegan for six weeks and documented my experience, and was awarded second place in the “regular columns” category of the Livestock Publications Council Contest. I’m proud of my column and the work I’ve done to make it successful and want to expand this success and reach a broader audience. My column is currently published in Cattle Business Weekly and the Wyoming Livestock Roundup.
